ACEN boosts renewables with Cagayan North Solar project

ACEN Corp., the Ayala group’s listed energy platform, is expanding its renewable footprint in North Luzon with the 133-megaWatt Cagayan North Solar project in Lal-lo, Cagayan.

The solar farm, developed alongside CleanTech Renewable Energy 4 Corp., will add clean power to the Luzon grid, addressing the region’s rising electricity demands and accelerating the nation’s green energy transition.

Covering 115 hectares, the solar farm is expected to generate 188 gigaWatt-hours annually—enough to supply 45,000 homes—and reduce carbon emissions by roughly 128,000 metric tons per year. As Cagayan’s first large-scale solar plant, it highlights the strategic push to widen renewable energy access beyond traditional hubs.

ACEN president and chief executive officer Eric Francia said the project’s role in strengthening the country’s energy security with sustainable generation.“Cagayan North Solar is the first renewable energy project in Cagayan supplying clean power to the Luzon grid. As demand for electricity continues to grow, this project plays a vital role in strengthening the country’s energy supply through reliable and sustainable generation,” he said.

CleanTech Global Renewables CEO Salvador Antonio Castro Jr. underscored the solar farm’s broader social and environmental impact, including job creation and infrastructure development.

Beyond power production, the project has generated about 1,000 green jobs during construction and supports community programs in Lal-lo. Investments include a P14 million high school in the remote barangay of Bical and P4 million for multipurpose gymnasiums in nearby barangays, enhancing local education and wellness facilities.

In partnership with the local government and Ayala Foundation, ACEN and CleanTech also provided disaster relief during Typhoon Ofel, reinforcing their commitment to community resilience.

Cagayan North Solar is 60 percent owned by ACEN and 40 percent by CleanTech.
