Robinsons Retail Holdings Inc., the listed retail arm of the Gokongwei Group, said it secured the greenlight from the Philippine Competition Commission (PCC) to acquire Premiumbikes Corporation (Premiumbikes), a motorcycle retailer in the Philippines.
Robinsons Retail said the PCC issued the resolution clearing its acquisition of Premiumbikes on November 6. The listed company is acquiring Premiumbikes from Lance Gokongwei, whose family controls Robinsons Retail, through its wholly-owned unit Robinson’s Supermarket Corp.
The PCC approval is among the regulatory hurdles needed to be passed to finalize the deal, which valued Premiumbikes at P146.4 million. Robinsons Retail engaged a third-party financial consultant to prepare a fairness opinion and valuation report on the Premiumbikes shares.
Premiumbikes has demonstrated consistent profitability in recent years. For full-year 2024, the company recorded net sales of P4.2 billion, up 15 percent, while earning before intrest, taxes, depreciation and amortization increased 37 percent to P324 million.
As of September 2025, the company operates 215 stores nationwide. Rising demand for motorcycles, combined with relatively low ownership levels, indicates significant long-term potential for this category. In the Philippines, motorcycle ownership stands at one motorcycle for every eight people (8:1), compared to 4:1 in Indonesia and Vietnam, and 3:1 in Thailand, according to various industry reports.
“The integration of Premiumbikes into Robinsons Retail’s portfolio opens opportunities to strengthen our operations,” said Joselito O. Pojol, General Manager of Premiumbikes. “We look forward to leveraging Robinsons Retail’s nationwide presence and deep retail expertise to deliver better value and service to our customers.”
“This acquisition represents Robinsons Retail’s entry into a fast-growing and profitable motorcycle segment,” said Stanley C. Co, president and chief executive officer of Robinsons Retail. “It strengthens our commitment to build a more diversified and future-ready portfolio that caters to the changing lifestyles and needs of Filipino consumers. We see long-term potential in Premiumbikes and look forward to its successful integration into the Robinsons Retail ecosystem.”
