Vehicle sales of member companies of the Chamber of Automotive Manufacturers of the Philippines, Inc. (CAMPI) and the Truck Manufacturers Association (TMA) slipped slightly in 2025, revealing a market split between weak passenger car demand and resilient growth in commercial vehicles and electrified models.
Industry data showed CAMPI–TMA sales fell 0.8 percent year on year to 463,646 units from 467,252 in 2024, missing the industry’s 500,000-unit target.
This marked a turnaround from 2024, when sales rose 8.7 percent. However, when combined with other available data, total vehicle sales still grew 3.7 percent to 491,395 units, highlighting uneven performance across reporting groups.
CAMPI and TMA said growth was constrained by an unfavorable market environment in the second half, citing the reimposition of excise taxes on pickup trucks and the impact of successive natural calamities nationwide. Despite these headwinds, December sales reached 47,371 units, the strongest monthly performance since 2017.
“We attribute last year’s achievement to aggressive promotional campaigns and new product introductions from various car brands, which expanded consumer options, especially in electrified and commercial vehicle segments,” CAMPI President Jose Maria Atienza said.
Passenger cars bore the brunt of the slowdown, with sales plunging 23.1 percent to 92,924 units. Their market share narrowed sharply to 20.04 percent from 25.85 percent a year earlier.
In contrast, commercial vehicle sales rose 7 percent to 370,722 units, lifting their share to nearly 80 percent of total industry sales, supported by sustained demand from logistics, infrastructure, construction, and fleet operators.
Electrified vehicles emerged as a standout growth driver. Sales of xEVs surged 142.5 percent to 58,905 units, accounting for 12 percent of the 2025 market, up from 5.5 percent in 2024. Hybrids led the expansion, suggesting consumers are embracing electrification while managing concerns over charging infrastructure and range.
Toyota remained the clear market leader, selling 229,447 units, followed by Mitsubishi with 86,808 units and Nissan with 20,571 units, though the latter two recorded year-on-year declines.
