The Philippine National Bank (PNB) has partnered with Mastercard to advance tokenization, a technology that replaces card numbers with unique digital tokens for each transaction, boosting security for both online and in-store payments. The collaboration was formalized at the Conrad Hotel, highlighting a shared goal of providing safer, faster, and more convenient digital payment solutions.
PNB president and CEO Edwin R. Bautista said the integration of tokenized digital wallets reflects the bank’s mission to make digital banking simpler and more secure. “Filipinos are looking for faster and safer ways to pay every day. Tokenization isn’t just a security upgrade — it’s the future of payments, delivering smoother experiences for customers,” Bautista noted.
Tokenization allows for biometric authentication and replaces physical card numbers with unique device account numbers, adding multiple layers of protection while speeding up transactions.
Jason Crasto, country manager for Mastercard Philippines, emphasized the role of tokenization in building consumer trust and supporting the growth of the country’s digital payments ecosystem. Mastercard also enhances the digital experience with lifestyle and travel benefits for cardholders through programs like Mastercard Travel Rewardsand Priceless Specials.
PNB’s tokenized digital wallet launch signals the bank’s commitment to future-ready, secure e-commerce transactions, aligning with global payment standards and evolving customer needs. For cardholders, this means everyday payments are becoming simpler, safer, and more seamless, anytime and anywhere.
