MCIA steps up preparations for ASEAN Summit in Cebu

The Mactan-Cebu International Airport is stepping up preparations for the upcoming ASEAN Summit set to take place in Cebu this May.

Airport officials said they are rolling out operational plans to ensure smooth, secure, and efficient arrivals and departures for heads of state, delegates, and international media. Improvements include upgrades to VIP lounges, tighter airside operations, and measures to maintain comfort for regular passengers.

The Mactan-Cebu International Airport Authority has also carried out several infrastructure projects. These include improvements to the General Aviation Terminal, repainting of apron markings and perimeter fences, upgrades to water systems, and better aircraft parking arrangements.

Road access to the airport has been enhanced through the widening of Ibo Access Road, along with added lighting and landscaping. New signages and an LED wall have also been installed to improve navigation and the airport’s appearance.

To highlight local culture, airport officials will wear uniforms made from locally woven fabric, with accessories crafted by Cebu-based artisans.

Authorities said they are working closely with government and security agencies to ensure safety and smooth coordination throughout the summit, while aiming to provide a warm welcome for visiting Southeast Asian leaders.
