Transport Secretary Giovanni Lopez has ordered the Civil Aviation Authority of the Philippines (CAAP) to lift its suspension of operations at General Santos Airport — but only for military, government, and humanitarian flights.
The move follows a 7.8-magnitude quake off Sarangani Province and President Marcos’ directive for fast disaster response. It ensures unhampered delivery of aid and access for relief workers and donors.
Lopez also instructed CAAP to inspect the airport’s structures for safety, account for all personnel, and provide support to affected staff and their families.
Earlier, CAAP suspended all flights to assess facilities, resulting in 63 cancelled flights from June 8 to 11, 2026.
