Freelancing has become an increasingly popular career choice in the Philippines, with the sector recording a 208 percent growth in revenue between 2019 and 2020 – the highest rate across Asia. While this flexible work setup offers freedom to choose clients and set schedules, independent professionals also face unique challenges including inconsistent income, tax compliance, limited financial protection and retirement planning.
In response to these needs, BPI/MS Insurance Corporation (BPI MS), the non-life insurance subsidiary of Bank of the Philippine Islands, will hold the Freelancer Wellness Summit on June 27 at Makati Diamond Residences. This one-day event gathers freelancers, gig workers, solopreneurs and independent professionals to gain practical knowledge on financial management, personal well-being and long-term readiness.

The summit features industry experts including keynote speaker Representative Chel Diokno, who will discuss empowerment and resilience. Session topics cover budgeting and managing irregular income, building credit profiles, simplifying tax obligations, accessing healthcare solutions, maintaining mental wellness, leveraging productivity tools and developing professional branding. Participants will also receive complimentary resources and have the chance to win prizes such as tablets, laptops and service vouchers.
This initiative reflects BPI and BPI MS’ commitment to supporting the evolving workforce. The group already offers tailored solutions such as the BPI Freelancer personal accident insurance product to address the specific needs of independent workers.
