Taal Vista Hotel taps veteran hotelier for growth

A heritage hotel is getting a new hand at the helm.

SM Hotels and Conventions Corp. (SMHCC) has appointed Belgian hospitality executive Sven Toune as general manager of Taal Vista Hotel, tasking the veteran hotelier with leading one of the Philippines’ most iconic destinations as tourism and business travel continue to rebound.

The appointment reflects a broader industry trend. As competition intensifies, hotel operators are increasingly investing in experienced leadership to sharpen operations, strengthen guest loyalty, and capture rising demand from both leisure travelers and the meetings, incentives, conferences and exhibitions (MICE) market.

Toune brings more than two decades of experience across luxury resorts and international hotel brands in Southeast Asia. Over the past 10 years in the Philippines, he has built a reputation for combining operational discipline with people-focused leadership, an increasingly important advantage in an experience-driven hospitality market.

Before joining Taal Vista Hotel, Toune served as general manager of Park Inn by Radisson Davao, SMHCC’s first Park Inn by Radisson property in the country. He was credited with strengthening the hotel’s market position, improving guest satisfaction, and forging stronger partnerships with local communities and stakeholders.

“I am honored to join Taal Vista Hotel and become part of a team with such a strong reputation for hospitality excellence,” Toune said. He added that his priorities include elevating guest experiences while fostering innovation, professional development, and sustainable growth.

SMHCC Executive Vice President Peggy Angeles said Toune’s leadership will reinforce Taal Vista Hotel’s position as a premier heritage destination, particularly in the leisure and MICE segments.

For Taal Vista Hotel, which has welcomed generations of visitors overlooking Taal Lake and Volcano, the next chapter is not about changing its identity. It is about proving that even heritage properties must continually evolve to keep hospitality timeless.
