Metro Retail earns DTI recognition for 11 Cebu stores

Metro Retail Stores Group Inc. (MRSGI) has strengthened its consumer credentials after 11 of its Cebu stores received the 2025 Bagwis Award from the Department of Trade and Industry (DTI), reinforcing the retailer’s focus on service quality, fair trade practices, and customer trust as competition in the retail sector intensifies.

The Bagwis Award recognizes retail establishments that uphold consumer rights through regulatory compliance, transparent pricing, quality products, and excellent customer service. Beyond operational excellence, the recognition serves as a mark of credibility that can help retailers build customer loyalty and strengthen their market position.

Among the award-winning stores were Metro Colon Supermarket and Department Store, Metro Ayala Supermarket and Department Store, Metro Canduman Supermarket, Metro Wholesale Mart Colon, Super Metro Colon, Super Metro Basak Mambaling, Metro IT Park, Metro Supermarket Banawa, and Super Metro Toledo, alongside two other Cebu branches recognized by the DTI.

MRSGI President and Chief Operating Officer Joselito Orense said the awards affirm the company’s commitment to placing customers at the center of its operations.

“We are honored to receive this recognition from the DTI, as it affirms our commitment to putting customers at the heart of our operations. This achievement reflects the dedication of our store teams, whose hard work and passion enable us to provide excellent service while upholding the highest standards of responsible retailing,” he said.

The recognition comes as retailers increasingly compete not only on price and product selection but also on trust, transparency, and service standards. Industry observers note that certifications recognizing responsible business practices are becoming more valuable as consumers grow more discerning about where they shop.

For MRSGI, the Bagwis Awards reinforce a broader strategy of strengthening customer relationships while maintaining high operating standards across its supermarket and department store network. The company said it will continue improving store operations and promoting ethical business practices that create value for consumers, employees, and the communities it serves.
