Holcim expands road safety campaign before school reopening

Holcim Philippines has expanded its nationwide road safety campaign ahead of the opening of classes, reinforcing efforts to reduce traffic accidents by educating drivers, pedestrians, cyclists, and communities about one of the most overlooked hazards on the road: vehicle blind spots.
The company’s annual “See Me, Save Me” campaign reached more than 2,300 employees, contractors, truck drivers, teachers, students, and community members across Bulacan, La Union, Davao, and Misamis Oriental during the first week of June, in coordination with this year’s Brigada Eskwela activities.
By aligning the campaign with school preparations, Holcim is targeting a period when roads become busier with students and pedestrians, groups that are among the most vulnerable to traffic accidents involving large vehicles.
The initiative forms part of Holcim Philippines’ participation in the United Nations Decade of Action for Road Safety (2021–2030), reflecting a broader shift among companies toward embedding public safety into their environmental, social, and governance (ESG) commitments.
Participants attended road safety orientations, toolbox talks, live demonstrations, and community engagement sessions designed to improve awareness of vehicle blind spots and safe road behavior. The campaign also emphasized practical measures such as proper mirror checks, maintaining safe distances from pedestrians and cyclists, allowing extra time before moving from a stop, and anticipating unexpected road situations.
“Road safety is a shared responsibility. Through the See Me, Save Me campaign, we are strengthening awareness among drivers and road users that simple actions, such as checking blind spots, slowing down, and staying visible, can help save lives,” said Holcim Philippines Chief Executive Officer Mohit Kapoor.
Special sessions were also conducted for teachers and school personnel to reinforce road safety around school zones, where increased pedestrian activity heightens accident risks.
As infrastructure activity and freight movement continue to grow, companies with large transport fleets are facing greater expectations to go beyond compliance and actively promote safer roads. Holcim’s campaign underscores the growing recognition that preventing accidents requires not only safer vehicles and infrastructure but also sustained public awareness and shared responsibility among all road users.
