Agriculture sector damage from the enhanced southwest monsoon and Tropical Cyclones Luis, Maymay and Neneng has risen to P1.91 billion, per the Department of Agriculture (DA) 12 noon advisory. This is up from the P1.79 billion reported August 22.
Some 61,237 farmers across 54,611 hectares are affected, with 47,772 metric tons of produce lost. About 82 percent of affected areas (44,793 ha) may still recover; only 18 percent are deemed unrecoverable. Rice accounts for the largest share at P1.07 billion, followed by high-value crops at P610.32 million, corn at P92.68 million, and farm infrastructure and equipment at P79.24 million. Additional damage includes cassava, livestock, poultry and fisheries losses. Assessments continue across Luzon and Western Visayas, with final totals expected to rise.
Aid deployed so far includes P237.99 million in seeds and grain supplies, P35.67 million in crop insurance payouts, and zero-interest recovery loans up to P25,000. The DA is also monitoring commodity prices and supporting supply logistics.
As of 4 p.m. today, Typhoon Obet was far northeast of Northern Luzon moving northwest, with two other weather systems outside the Philippine Area of Responsibility. Rain and thunderstorms are forecast for parts of Luzon, with scattered showers elsewhere nationwide.
