Emperador rejoins FTSE index as Small Cap

Emperador Inc., the listed liquor company of tycoon Andrew Tan,  is re-entering the FTSE Global Equity Index Series as a Small Cap constituent, giving the Philippine-listed spirits company renewed exposure to global institutional investors.

Emperador said FTSE Russell added the company to its FTSE Asia Pacific ex Japan ex China Regional Index following its semi-annual review announced on August 21.

Emperador is the only Philippine company newly included in the FTSE Small Cap segment in the latest review, making its re-entry particularly notable for the local stock market.

The inclusion places Emperador back in the FTSE GEIS universe and in the relevant FTSE Small Cap and All Cap benchmark universes. The move can increase the company’s visibility among international investors and potentially broaden its institutional shareholder base.

Index membership is closely watched by institutional investors because benchmark inclusion can influence portfolio allocations, trading activity, and a stock’s visibility in global markets. While inclusion does not guarantee additional investment, companies often seek it as part of efforts to expand their investable shareholder base and improve liquidity.

Emperador said it remains focused on broadening its institutional investor base, improving market liquidity, and strengthening its investable market capitalization over time.

The company has a market capitalization of about USD3.8 billion and operates global brandy and Scotch whisky businesses across the Philippines, the United Kingdom, Spain, Mexico, and other international markets.

Its international footprint includes leading brown spirits brands, giving Emperador a significant overseas business base despite its Philippine listing.

Emperador is dual-listed on the Philippine Stock Exchange and Singapore Exchange, providing investors with access to the company through two major Asian equity markets.

The FTSE re-entry also comes as Philippine-listed companies seek greater visibility in international capital markets and stronger participation from foreign institutional investors.

For Emperador, the latest index inclusion provides a fresh opportunity to improve its profile among global investors and support its longer-term efforts to deepen liquidity and expand its institutional ownership.

The company’s return to FTSE GEIS underscores the growing international investability of one of the Philippines’ largest consumer companies.
