The Light Rail Manila Corp. (LRMC), the private operator of LRT-1, has stepped up infrastructure work, maintenance efforts and operational rules to keep services safe and dependable amid bad weather hitting Metro Manila and nearby areas.
Despite recent storms and monsoon rains, LRMC maintained continuous operations, giving commuters a reliable travel choice when work and classes were widely suspended. The line carried an average of 376,000 passengers daily in August 2026, showing strong public trust amid weather-related disruptions.
“Our commitment to safe, reliable and smooth journeys is absolute. Every challenge helps us improve and raise our service standards,” said LRMC President and CEO Enrico R. Benipayo. “We act fast on feedback and keep updating our procedures so LRT-1 remains a mobility partner Filipinos can count on, even in harsh weather.”
The company also quickly resolved an isolated water leak inside one of its fourth-generation train cars during heavy rain. Maintenance teams traced the problem to an air-conditioning unit drain line valve that failed before its three-to-five-year service life. The part was replaced right away, and the train passed full safety checks before returning to service.
Going further, LRMC is strengthening its preventive maintenance schedule to lower the chance of similar issues across its fleet. These efforts highlight the firm’s focus on operational excellence and corporate responsibility, ensuring service stability and safety for thousands of daily commuters when they need it most.
