Business tycoon Manuel V. Pangilinan returned to his hometown of Apalit, Pampanga to personally distribute relief packs to families displaced by severe flooding caused by days of heavy Habagat rains.
Pangilinan, chairman of Meralco, joined One Meralco Foundation and companies under the MVP Tulong Kapatid network in providing food, drinking water and other essentials to affected residents.
Relief packs were distributed at the Jose Escaler Memorial School in Barangay San Juan, which has been serving as an evacuation center for families forced to leave their homes as floodwaters rose.
The visit was particularly meaningful for Pangilinan, who grew up in Barangay San Juan and spent part of his childhood in Apalit.
Joining Pangilinan were One Meralco Foundation President Jeffrey Tarayao, PLDT-Smart Foundation President Esther Santos, Metro Pacific Investments Foundation President Melody del Rosario, Alagang Kapatid Foundation Executive Director Menchie Silvestre, Maynilad Water Services Head of Corporate Affairs and Communications Anette de Ocampo, and Makati Medical Center Foundation Executive Director Marge Barro.
The group also turned over additional relief packs and drinking water to the Apalit municipal government for distribution to other flood-hit communities.
Apalit Mayor Oscar “Jun” Tetangco Jr. and Vice Mayor Peter Nucom assisted in coordinating the relief effort and reaching residents who needed immediate support.
The initiative is part of MVP Tulong Kapatid’s disaster response efforts, which bring together companies and foundations across the MVP Group to provide assistance to communities during calamities and emergencies.
Through the coordinated relief operation, the group said it remains committed to helping affected families recover and ensuring that assistance reaches communities when they need it most.
