Mactan-Cebu International Airport (MCIA) has strengthened its standing among Asia-Pacific airports, earning a second consecutive recognition for passenger experience as its private operator pursues investments in infrastructure, technology, connectivity and sustainability.
The airport, operated by Aboitiz InfraCapital Cebu Airport Corp. (ACAC) since 2024, was named among the Best Airports in Asia-Pacific in the 5–15 million passengers category under the Airports Council International (ACI) Airport Service Quality program.
The recognition is based on standardized passenger feedback covering more than 50 airport touchpoints, giving the airport an independent benchmark for its performance.
MCIA also advanced to Level 3 of ACI’s Airport Customer Experience Accreditation from Level 2, reflecting the implementation of its customer experience strategy across operations and service delivery.
“Our focus has been on making investments and improvements that create a better airport experience—from infrastructure and technology to operations and connectivity,” said Rafael M. Aboitiz, AIC vice president and head of airports.
He said the goal was to deliver a safer, more efficient and more connected journey for passengers.
One of the airport’s most significant connectivity initiatives is CEB Connects, launched in April 2025 to streamline air-to-air transfers. The program cut minimum connection times to 35 minutes for domestic-to-domestic transfers and 60 minutes for other domestic and international combinations.
CEB Connects has handled more than 500,000 passenger transfers, reinforcing Cebu’s role as a domestic and international gateway.
MCIA was also named Airport of the Year – Asia at the 2025 TDM Travel Trade Excellence Awards and ranked the seventh Most Improved Airport in the World by Skytrax in 2025.
Its sustainability efforts have likewise advanced. In August, MCIA secured Level 2 Airport Carbon Accreditation, supported by a 1.64-MWp rooftop solar installation, energy-efficiency measures and improved emissions monitoring.
The airport also became the first Philippine airport to join ACI’s Regional Operational Safety Committee in 2026.
ACAC general manager Ricia Montejo said the latest recognitions underscored the impact of the airport’s improvements while reinforcing the need for continued collaboration with the Mactan-Cebu International Airport Authority, Department of Transportation, Civil Aviation Authority of the Philippines and the wider airport community.
