Manila is poised to get its first Philippine Economic Zone Authority-accredited information technology center as developers move to tap renewed demand for IT-BPM and technology facilities in Metro Manila.
PEZA Director General Tereso Panga said around three to five IT park applications are now in the pipeline following the lifting of the government moratorium on new economic zones in the capital.
“Because of the lifting of the moratorium, we now see also some IT park applications,” Panga said.
One of the projects is a new building in Manila that could become the city’s first PEZA-accredited IT center. Panga identified Star Digital as the developer and said the company is preparing to meet PEZA requirements.
“This is for sure. First in Manila,” Panga said.
Star Digital is also exploring PEZA accreditation for an AI academy, potentially adding technology training to the project as demand grows for workers with specialized digital and artificial intelligence skills.
The new applications signal a reopening of Metro Manila as an investment market for PEZA-accredited IT facilities after years of restrictions aimed at steering investments and jobs toward areas outside the capital.
Panga also cited Yuchengco’s proposed IT project in Makati as a new application, while an IT park project in Arca South remains pending.
For IT-BPM companies and technology investors, the return of new PEZA projects could expand the supply of incentive-eligible locations in Metro Manila, where established business districts continue to offer access to talent, transport, telecommunications, and supporting services.
The pipeline also points to a potential new wave of technology property development as developers position projects for an industry increasingly shaped by artificial intelligence, digital services, and more specialized technology operations.
