Metro Retail Stores Group Inc. (MRSGI) is expanding in Eastern Visayas with a new retail hub in Ormoc City, aiming to deepen its regional presence while opening a new commercial channel for local businesses and producers.
MRSGI and the Ormoc City government have formalized a partnership for Metro Ormoc, a planned three-story development at the corner of Real, Lopez Jaena and Rizal Streets, one of the city’s central commercial locations.
Site handover and groundbreaking are targeted for late 2026, with full construction mobilization scheduled to begin in early 2027.
The project, whose cost was not made immediately available, will feature a Metro Supermarket and Metro Department Store, alongside food and service tenants and dedicated parking. Solar panels are also planned for the roof deck as part of the development.
“Ormoc serves as an important commercial and economic center in Eastern Visayas, making it a strategic location for expanding our retail presence in the region,” MRSGI President and COO Joselito Orense said.
The company expects the development to create direct and indirect employment across construction, retail, facilities management and logistics.
Beyond its core retail operations, Metro Ormoc is also being positioned as a platform for regional suppliers. MRSGI plans to provide commercial space for local vendors and micro, small and medium enterprises, while featuring agricultural products, native delicacies and artisanal goods from Ormoc and surrounding areas.
“Metro found alignment in Ormoc City wanting to showcase its native products and delicacies,” MRSGI Chairperson Sherisa Nuesa said.
The project adds to MRSGI’s push into major urban centers across the Visayas as competition among retailers intensifies outside Metro Manila.
MRSGI currently operates 84 stores across Luzon and the Visayas under its supermarket, department store, hypermarket, value-mart, and home and lifestyle formats.
