University of Perpetual Help Medical Center–Las Piñas (PHMC-LP) founder and chief executive Antonio Laperal Tamayo has received Hospital Management Asia’s CEO of the Year Excellence Award, as the medical center marks its 50th anniversary.
PHMC-LP said the recognition comes as the Las Piñas-based hospital expands its medical technology and specialized services, including investments in molecular imaging and robot-assisted surgery.
Founded in 1976 as a 50-bed community clinic, PHMC-LP has since grown into a tertiary hospital serving southern Metro Manila, with services covering cardiovascular medicine, oncology, kidney transplantation, neuroscience and minimally invasive surgery.
“This recognition reflects 50 years of dedication and collective effort from our medical staff and support teams,” Tamayo said.
“It affirms the vision we have pursued from the beginning: to build more than a hospital, but a sustainable, future-ready healthcare ecosystem,” he added.
The hospital has continued to invest in advanced medical technology as part of its expansion. In 2026, PHMC-LP introduced the Symbia Pro.Specta Advanced Molecular Imaging System, which is designed to support disease assessment, cancer diagnosis and treatment monitoring.
It also acquired the fourth-generation da Vinci Xi Surgical System for robot-assisted minimally invasive procedures. The hospital said it plans to introduce additional medical technologies later this year to further expand its diagnostic and therapeutic capabilities.
PHMC-LP said it is also the first Philippine hospital to secure a quadruple ISO-certified integrated management system covering environmental management, healthcare quality, energy management, and occupational health and safety.
Beyond its civilian healthcare role, the medical center is the country’s first Armed Forces of the Philippines-affiliated Reserve Medical Center and 1st Air Reserve Hospital. The designation gives the facility a role in healthcare response during emergencies and national crises.
The award comes as PHMC-LP enters its sixth decade, with its expansion increasingly focused on advanced technology, specialized care and broader healthcare resilience.
