DHSUD spotlights housing opportunities during Shelter Month

The Department of Human Settlements and Urban Development (DHSUD) is putting homeownership, private-sector participation and housing regulation in the spotlight as the country marks National Shelter Month 2026, amid efforts to accelerate housing delivery under the government’s Expanded Pambansang Pabahay para sa Pilipino (4PH) program.

DHSUD will open the month-long observance on Oct. 5 under the theme “Tahanan. Pamayanan. Kinabukasan.” The activities will bring together government agencies, developers and other industry stakeholders to highlight housing programs, services and investment opportunities.

A major event is the second government-led National Housing Expo, organized by Pag-IBIG Fund on Oct. 19 and 20 at the SM Convention Center. The expo is expected to connect prospective homeowners with housing stakeholders while providing information on financing, services and pathways to homeownership.

The observance will culminate in the National Real Estate Summit on Oct. 28 at the DHSUD Auditorium. Government and private-sector participants are expected to examine policies and regulatory directions shaping housing and real estate development.

DHSUD Secretary Jose Ramon Aliling said the government remains focused on expanding access to safe, decent and affordable homes through the Expanded 4PH program.

The push also underscores the growing role of private developers and financial institutions in expanding housing supply. On Oct. 1, DHSUD and Pag-IBIG Fund led the topping-off of Towers C and D of Jab Residences under the 4PH-Sampaloc III project in Dasmariñas, Cavite.

Implemented by Megawide Construction Corp., the development is designed to provide 4,000 socialized condominium units, illustrating how public housing goals increasingly rely on private-sector capacity and capital.

National Shelter Month is observed every October under Proclamation No. 662, series of 1995.
