Converge: PH‑Singapore cable cut causes barely any disruption

Converge ICT Solutions Inc. reported minimal service impact after a Philippines‑Singapore submarine cable failure last Friday, as traffic was instantly shifted to alternate routes, chiefly the new Bifrost cable system. Most home and business users stayed connected, with only isolated issues accessing Singapore‑hosted sites and apps.

Converge chief executive Dennis Anthony Uy said this reliability came from five years of planned investment in network redundancy, with both Bifrost and SEA‑H2X cables now serving as critical backups. The 20,000‑kilometer Bifrost links the Philippines to Singapore, the US and beyond at over 240 terabits per second, while the 6,000‑kilometer SEA‑H2X offers more than 200 terabits per second across key Asian hubs. Converge holds stakes in both systems and leads local landing for Bifrost in Davao, giving it what Uy calls the youngest, most resilient international network among Philippine operators.

With rising demand for AI and cloud computing driving growing cross‑border data needs, Converge will keep expanding cables and data centers to meet demand, while working to establish the Philippines as Asia’s leading digital gateway.
