PAL cancels Manila–Riyadh flights after Saudi airport attacks; safety priority, passenger adjustments underway

Philippine Airlines (PAL) announced Thursday it has canceled two scheduled flights between Manila and Riyadh amid a worsening security situation in the Middle East.

Affected are flight PR654 from Manila to Riyadh on October 8, 2026, and return flight PR655 from Riyadh to Manila on October 10.

The decision follows separate attacks this week on Abha International Airport and King Khalid International Airport in Riyadh, claimed by Yemen’s Houthi movement. Saudi Arabia’s General Authority of Civil Aviation (GACA) reported the strikes killed three civilians and injured 36 others.

PAL said its operational teams are assessing airport conditions and airspace safety to decide the status of subsequent flights. Passengers on the canceled flights are being notified and offered available travel options, including rebooking or refunds.

“We recognize the inconvenience and concern these cancellations may cause our passengers,” the carrier said. “The safety and well-being of passengers and crew remain our highest priority.”

PAL added it is closely monitoring developments and will issue further updates as needed.

The route serves a critical corridor for Filipino workers and families in Saudi Arabia, making the cancellations a significant logistical and travel disruption for Philippine nationals abroad.
