The Federation of Filipino-Chinese Chambers of Commerce and Industry Inc. (FFCCCII) is calling for stronger cross-border business partnerships across Southeast Asia, citing opportunities to expand trade, attract investment and accelerate technology cooperation amid growing geopolitical and economic uncertainty.
FFCCCII president Victor Lim said closer collaboration among Chinese business chambers in the Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN) could help enterprises enter new markets, establish joint ventures and benefit from deeper regional economic integration.
“There is great potential in combining our respective strengths,” Lim said in his welcome remarks at the 2026 ASEAN Chinese Business Leaders Summit and Business Forum in Pasay City on Monday.
He described business chambers as important intermediaries between enterprises, providing platforms for networking, knowledge exchange and the development of commercial partnerships.
“We provide platforms where entrepreneurs can collaborate; where ideas are exchanged; and where opportunities become tangible projects,” he said.
Lim pointed to regional mechanisms such as the ASEAN Free Trade Area, the Regional Comprehensive Economic Partnership (RCEP) and the ASEAN Guide on AI Governance and Ethics as frameworks that can support trade, economic integration and responsible technological development.
These initiatives offer businesses avenues to explore broader markets and emerging technologies, although translating regional agreements into concrete gains will depend on market conditions, regulatory implementation and companies’ capacity to compete across borders.
Lim also cited geopolitical tensions, economic volatility, climate change and technological disruption as challenges confronting businesses. He said stronger regional networks could help entrepreneurs navigate these pressures while identifying new areas for cooperation.
The summit gathered Chinese business organizations from Brunei, Laos, Malaysia, Myanmar, Singapore, Timor-Leste, Indonesia and the Philippines, bringing together groups with potential to facilitate commercial exchanges and investment partnerships across the region.
Lim urged participating chambers to deepen their connections, encourage innovation and develop partnerships that could contribute to regional economic growth.
The push comes as ASEAN economies seek to strengthen their interconnectedness in an uncertain global environment. For businesses, closer cooperation among chambers could create more channels for market access and investment, while sustained results will depend on converting dialogue into viable projects and long-term commercial commitments.
