The Department of Agriculture is urging lawmakers to approve its P198.4-billion proposed 2027 budget, noting farmers and fisherfolk now face rising costs, climate risks, and global economic pressures.
Though this request is 7.7 percent lower than the agency’s 2026 budget, the funds are critical: they will support better seeds, farming tools, cold storage, farm roads, and climate readiness to cut crop losses and connect producers to markets.
Without this support, as many as 4.6 million people working in agriculture risk falling further behind—threatening the country’s food supply and livelihoods that employ one in five Filipinos.
Officials stressed that affordable food depends on farmers being able to earn a living, and that targeted investment will deliver real results for communities across the country.
