The Bank of the Philippine Islands (BPI) has named consumer banking chief Maria Cristina “Ginbee” L. Go as the incoming president and chief executive officer, the first female to hold the leadership spot in one of the Philippines’ oldest and largest banks.
BPI’s Board of Directors approved the succession plan at its regular meeting, identifying Go to succeed Jose Teodoro K. Limcaoco effective April 26, 2027, following the bank’s annual stockholders’ meeting and subject to the necessary approvals.
The appointment places a longtime BPI executive at the helm, signaling continuity in leadership as the bank navigates intensifying competition in digital finance, evolving customer expectations, and the push to broaden financial inclusion.
Go currently heads BPI’s Consumer Banking segment and brings 23 years of experience within the institution. Her career spans key leadership roles in consumer banking, retail lending, payments and unsecured lending—businesses central to the bank’s customer acquisition, lending growth and revenue diversification strategies.
Since the consolidation of various businesses under OneConsumer Bank, 55-year-old Go has spearheaded a client-first transformation strategy focused on delivering a seamless omnichannel,or “phygital,” bankingexperience that combines personalized, face-to-face service with digitalconvenience. The approach leverages BPI’s 11,000-strong banking workforce alongside the bank’sexpanding digital capabilities. Before taking the helm of BPI Consumer Banking, Go served as president of BPI Family Savings Bank.
Her appointment also underscores the strategic importance of consumer banking as lenders compete for retail deposits, credit card spending and personal lending opportunities while expanding digital services.
Limcaoco, who has served as president and CEO since April 2021, has overseen BPI’s growth and transformation, with a focus on digital banking, financial inclusion and sustainability. Following the transition, he will remain a member of the bank’s board and assume senior governance roles in other major operating companies within the Ayala Group, with further details to be announced.
The planned handover provides BPI with time to prepare for the change while maintaining board-level continuity. For investors and the wider banking industry, attention will turn to how Go builds on Limcaoco’s agenda while steering the bank through its next phase of growth.
