Philippine consumer financing platform Billease has launched a zero-commission online marketplace aimed at helping retailers cut selling costs while giving shoppers access to installment credit, challenging the fee-based business models of established e-commerce players.
Called Billease Deals, the platform allows brands and distributors to sell products without listing fees, sales commissions or payment-processing markups. Billease estimates merchants spend nearly 20 percent of online sales on commissions, payment charges and advertising to maintain visibility, although the figure has not been independently verified.
Under the model, sellers retain control over pricing, inventory, promotions and deliveries, while Billease provides customer traffic and installment financing. Rather than taking a share of merchandise sales, the company generates revenue from financing purchases.
The distinction could appeal to retailers seeking to protect margins in a competitive online market, where marketplace fees and promotional spending can erode profitability. However, the platform’s ability to attract sustained customer traffic and convert browsing into sales will be central to its commercial success.
Kurt Molina, Billease’s head of POS product, said the service integrates purchasing power into product discovery by showing shoppers their available credit limits as they browse.
“We take nothing from the sale. Our interest is the same as the brand’s: put the product in front of someone who can afford it today,” Molina said.
The company argues that savings from marketplace fees could help merchants offer lower prices, discounts and zero-interest installment promotions. Selected purchases on Billease Deals qualify for zero down payment and zero-interest financing, subject to applicable conditions.
The marketplace covers electronics, appliances, personal care products and health services. Previously available only through the Billease application, it can now be accessed through mobile browsers at deals.billease.ph, potentially broadening its reach beyond existing app users.
The launch adds another contender to the Philippines’ crowded e-commerce landscape. Its longer-term impact will depend on whether lower selling costs translate into meaningful consumer savings, stronger merchant participation and a sustainable financing-led business model.
