Dizon sets clear priorities for DOTr: fix LTO, boost commuter experience, strengthen road safety

Incoming Transportation Secretary Vince Dizon has laid out his key priorities as he returns to lead the Department of Transportation, placing urgent focus on improving daily commutes, enhancing road safety, and overhauling long-standing problems at the Land Transportation Office.

Dizon made the commitment as he prepares to take over from outgoing chief Giovanni Lopez, who moves to head the Department of Public Works and Highways. He noted he would build on ongoing reforms while carrying out President Ferdinand Marcos Jr.’s directive to finally resolve deep-seated issues within the department.

He identified the LTO as his top concern, saying the President had given clear instructions to fix its problems once and for all. Dizon emphasized he had the full trust of the President, vowing to overhaul what he described as a flawed and corrupt system in line with the administration’s good governance push.

This marks Dizon’s return to the DOTr, having previously served as secretary from February to August 2025. He expressed confidence that Lopez would sustain the reform momentum at DPWH, warning those hoping for a more lenient leadership style would be mistaken.

For his part, Lopez said he brings independence to his new post, noting he has no personal or professional ties within the department that could cloud judgment. “I have no debt of gratitude to anyone in the DPWH, and it is easier for me to make a decision if something is wrong,” he explained, signaling continuity in the government’s drive for transparent and efficient public service.
