Green GSM targets 7,000 VinFast vehicles as Philippine expansion accelerates

Green GSM plans to purchase about 7,000 VinFast vehicles this year as the ride-hailing operator expands its Philippine fleet and depot network, betting that lower fares can help it compete with established mobility providers.

Victor Vela, deputy chief executive for sales at VinFast Philippines, said the planned purchases would follow about 12,000 units acquired last year. Green GSM currently has roughly 15,000 vehicles on Philippine roads, he said.

Green GSM’s vehicle purchases are separate from VinFast Philippines’ sales, Vela emphasized, distinguishing the ride-hailing company’s fleet expansion from the automaker’s broader commercial performance.

The operator is also preparing to expand its depot infrastructure beyond its existing facilities in Quezon City and Las Piñas. A third depot is planned in Antipolo, followed by another in Cavite, as the company seeks to improve vehicle availability and extend its reach beyond Metro Manila and Cebu.

Green GSM has recently entered Cagayan de Oro and is working to establish operations in additional areas, Vela said. The expansion will depend partly on the availability of vehicles and supporting infrastructure in each market.

“Green GSM really just wants to provide mobility for everybody—affordable mobility,” Vela said.

The company offers fares about 30% below those of competitors and does not impose surge pricing, according to Vela. The pricing strategy could help distinguish the service in a market where passengers often face fluctuating fares during periods of high demand.

Green GSM currently operates the Herio Green, a five-seater, and the Limo Green, a premium taxi model. The earlier Nerio Green has been phased out, Vela said. Fares for the Limo Green are approximately 9% to 10% higher than those for the five-seater.

Vela described becoming the country’s leading mobility provider as the company’s ambition, while acknowledging the considerable gap it must close with established operators.

The planned fleet additions and depot investments signal an effort to scale both capacity and geographic coverage. Whether Green GSM can translate its lower-price positioning into sustained market share gains will depend on execution as it enters more cities and serves a wider customer base.
