BDO Unibank logs steady earnings growth amid tough economic backdrop

BDO Unibank, Inc. reported a nine‑month 2026 net income of ₱63.6 billion, slightly higher than the ₱63.1 billion recorded in the same period of 2025, with a 13.1 percent return on equity reflecting the bank’s solid core business performance. The lender’s results were driven by broad‑based loan expansion, rising net interest income, and better asset quality even as economic conditions remained challenging. Gross customer loans grew 16 percent to ₱4.1 trillion, pushing net interest income up 11 percent year‑on‑year, while total deposits rose 11 percent and current and savings accounts climbed 5 percent; non‑interest income gained 3 percent and operating costs were kept to single‑digit growth. The bank’s non‑performing loan ratio fell to 1.60 percent from 1.77 percent a year earlier, with its NPL coverage ratio holding steady at 132 percent, a key reassurance for depositors regarding loan‑related risks. For shareholders, total equity rose 6 percent and book value per share also increased 6 percent to ₱123.60, while its common equity Tier 1 capital ratio stood at 12.6 percent, signalling strong capital buffers. BDO said it is well‑positioned to pursue long‑term growth opportunities, supported by its diversified operations, solid financial standing and leading market position.
