Tanduay steps up European expansion launching 20‑year reserve at Bar Convent Berlin

Local spirits leader Tanduay has brought its centuries‑old rum‑making heritage and craftsmanship to Europe’s biggest beverage trade show, unveiling its new premium offering as it pushes to grow its footprint across the region.

The Philippine brand took part in Bar Convent Berlin, held October 12‑14 at the Exhibition Centre Berlin in Germany — the world’s leading annual trade gathering for the bar and beverage sector — where it introduced Tanduay Reserve Rum‑20 Years alongside its existing premium product line‑up.

Roy Kristoffer Sumang, Tanduay International Business Development Manager, said the participation marked more than a product showcase, serving as a key platform to build ties with European industry players and prospective distribution partners as the firm ramps up overseas operations. “We are proud to share an expression that embodies the excellence of Philippine rum‑making and Tanduay’s expertise in rum production,” Sumang stated. “Beyond providing us an opportunity to introduce our premium rums to an international audience, the event gave us an important venue to connect with industry professionals and potential partners across Europe.”

The new Tanduay Reserve Rum‑20 Years is crafted from column‑distilled spirit derived from sugarcane molasses, aged for a minimum of two decades in ex‑bourbon barrels. Extended maturation under the Philippines’ warm tropical climate deepens the rum’s character through interaction with oak, yielding rich, complex flavours of caramel, ripe banana, vanilla, cocoa and dried fruit, with a smooth, mellow profile, medium amber hue and long refined finish.

Beyond product launches, Tanduay ran a brand‑led masterclass headed by its Research and Development Head Janno Gironella to help European bar owners, bartenders and trade guests learn more about its reserve range. The session formed part of the brand’s wider goal to build global recognition for Philippine rum and its unique qualities. Tanduay also presented a roster of Filipino‑inspired cocktails including the Chief Lapu‑Lapu, Toasted Coconut Ube Sours and the labuyo‑infused Prickly Pear, designed to highlight how its rums work as a base for creative drinks while introducing native Filipino flavours to European markets. “These cocktails demonstrate how Tanduay rum can serve as a foundation for creative drinks and also highlight the potential of Filipino ingredients and flavours,” Sumang explained.

Bar Convent Berlin draws bar operators, mixologists and spirits manufacturers from roughly 90 countries, making it a strategic stop for brands looking to tap emerging trends and build global networks. For Tanduay, the appearance supports its ongoing international expansion strategy, with a focus on forging partnerships to make its portfolio more widely available to consumers across Europe and beyond.

“As we continue to pursue opportunities in international markets, events like Bar Convent Berlin are very important for us. We thank everyone who took the time to visit our booth and enjoy our Rum From the Islas,” Sumang added.
