Alabat Wind supplies NGCP with 62.4 MW in a new interconnection pact

The Alabat Wind Power Corp. (AWPC), the renewable energy arm of Alternergy Holdings Corp., is supplying the National Grid Corporation of the Philippines (NGCP) with 62.4 megawatts (MW) from its wind power project in Alabat, Quezon in an interconnection agreement (ICA)

This much capacity from the Alabat wind power project will be sent through the NGCP’s 69-kilovolt Hondagua transmission line in Lopez, Quezon.

Gerry Magbanua, Alternergy and AWPC president, said the ICA will allow the company to meet its commitment to the Department of Energy under the second Green Energy Auction program.

“NGCP has provided the Alabat wind power project with an interconnection scheme that is most efficient and responsive to ensure viability and timely completion,” Magbanua said.

Last year, Alternergy bared plans to build up to 350 MW of power in three to five years broken down as 33 MW from solar, 220 MW from onshore wind and 50 MW for run-of-river hydro.

Alternergy also recently completed studies on the technical feasibility of offshore wind energy facilities with Shell Overseas Investment B.V..

That study concluded that three of four offshore sites show promise.
