A consortium of clean energy providers under the Maharlika Consortium have been contracted by the National Power Corp. (NPC) to put up microgrid systems in eight unserved areas in Cebu, Quezon and Palawan.
The microgrid service providers (MGSP) include the Maharlika Clean Power Holdings Corp., CleanGrid Partners Pte. Ltd. and WeEnergy Global Pte. Ltd.
The contract requires the consortium to deliver a hybrid microsystem using solar power, an energy storage system as well as diesel generating sets.
According to the NPC, consumers will be charged a rate determined by the Energy Regulatory Commission and sourced from the Universal Charge for Missionary Electrification or UC-ME.
In April, the Department of Energy acknowledged it is keen on pursuing the second round of the MGSP-CSP this year.
In the second round of bids, unserved areas and areas left out of the initial round form the core part of the program.
The MGSP-CSP aims to energize all 98 declared unserved and underserved areas of the country that have been clustered into 49 lots.
The program forms part of efforts to achieve 100 percent household electrification by 2028.
