Bohol solar farm connects to national grid

Petro Energy Resources Corp. (PERC) subsidiary Petro Green Energy Corp. (PGEC) on Monday announced that its 27- megawatt (MW) Dagohoy Solar Power Project (DSPP) has been successfully linked to the Bohol grid as of last Saturday. This connection marks a significant milestone, enabling the power plant to begin testing and commissioning

In a statement, PGEC said the completion of the tap-in connection of its 25-megavolt ampere substation to the 69-kiloVolt Carmen-Ubay transmission line, as well as its registration with the Wholesale Electricity Spot Market, were accomplished earlier this month.

“Starting testing and commissioning as a generation facility allows the DSPP to provide clean energy to Bohol, supporting the region’s growing economic and tourism sectors,” said Paul Elmer Morala, PGEC vice president for plant operations.

Once operational, the DSPP will be the first utility-scale solar power facility in Bohol, further boosting the area’s renewable energy infrastructure.

The Dagohoy project is part of a broader initiative by Rizal Green Energy Corp., a joint venture between PGEC and Japan’s Taisei Corp.

In addition to solar projects, PGEC is also pursuing offshore wind (OSW) projects in collaboration with Copenhagen Energy through their joint venture, BuhaWind Energy Philippines. The company is optimistic on advancing OSW projects, given the Department of Energy’s and the Philippine Ports Authority’s plans to repurpose key ports for energy development.

Also, the Currimao Port in Ilocos Norte is set to play a critical role in the construction of the 2,000-MW BuhaWind offshore wind farm projected to create 24,000 direct and indirect jobs over its construction and operational phases.

In addition to these initiatives, PGEC is developing two other projects with projected capacities of 1,000 MW each in Northern Mindoro and East Panay, both using the repurposed Sta. Clara Port in Batangas.

PERC’s power portfolio also includes projects like the 32-MW Maibarara geothermal power facility in Batangas and various solar and wind plants across the Philippines, underscoring its commitment to expanding renewable energy in the country.
