BOC-MICP earns P1.8-M from auction of forfeited goods

The Bureau of Customs (BOC) – Manila International Container Port (MICP) successfully generated P1.8 million in revenue through a recent public auction of forfeited goods.

The auction featured 13 containers from four sale lots, which included sandals, inflatable pools, cylindrical hinges, sodium sulfate, fire-protective board kits, a used motor vehicle, and assorted goods. The Auction and Cargo Disposal Division of the MICP earned P1,782,500 from auction proceeds and P20,200 from bidder registration fees, totaling P1,802,700 in revenue.

Public auctions like this are mandated by Sections 1118 and 1139 to 1151 of the Customs Modernization and Tariff Act (CMTA) and are regulated under Customs Administrative Order (CAO) 03-2020. These provisions enable the disposal of seized, abandoned, or forfeited goods through various means, including public auctions. The initiative not only contributes significant funds to the national treasury but also reinforces the BOC’s role in safeguarding Philippine borders from illicit or non-compliant imports.

District Collector Rizalino Jose C. Torralba reaffirmed MICP’s commitment to improving enforcement and disposal procedures. He emphasized that such efforts play a crucial role in enhancing border security while supporting the country’s economic growth.

The BOC-MICP remains steadfast in its mission to uphold national security and fiscal responsibility, ensuring that all goods entering the Philippines comply with customs regulations.
