SIDC Project on track to boost regional connectivity and economic growth

The Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH) is progressing steadily on the P23.5 billion Samal Island-Davao City Connector (SIDC) Project, with completion slated for 2028. According to senior undersecretary Emil K. Sadain, the project is 11.87 percent complete and has a positive slippage of 4.35 percent. The bridge, which will feature dual lanes in both directions, ramps, viaducts, and a 1.62-kilometer marine crossing, will enhance connectivity between Davao City and Samal Island.

Funded through an official development assistance (ODA) loan from China, the SIDC is a key initiative under President Ferdinand Marcos Jr.’s Build Better More program, designed to alleviate congestion and stimulate regional economic development. The project has already made significant strides, including completing the majority of piling works for both land and marine viaducts, and land acquisition efforts are progressing smoothly.

Once operational, the bridge is expected to drive tourism and economic growth in the region, significantly improving quality of life for residents and enhancing access to vital transportation links.
