Cebu-based MRF drives major sustainability win for PWS

Prime Integrated Waste Solutions (PWS), a unit of Prime Infrastructure Capital Inc., has sold over one million verified plastic credits since launching the program in January, the company announced Monday. Equivalent to removing the plastic weight of around 700 cars from the environment, the initiative offers companies a measurable way to offset their plastic footprint and meet sustainability targets.

PWS emphasized that the credits, generated from its Cebu City materials recovery facility (MRF), support corporate compliance with the Philippines’ Extended Producer Responsibility (EPR) Act. The EPR law mandates that companies recover and manage a portion of the plastic waste they produce.

“Our goal is to help businesses integrate sustainability into their operations,” said Cara Peralta, market sector lead for waste at Prime Infra. She noted that PWS’s modern, high-capacity MRFs enable large-scale, verifiable credit generation.

The company also highlighted the use of digital tracking to ensure data transparency and alignment with industry standards. Plastic diversion certificates issued to buyers include detailed information on waste type, origin, and recovery method.

By facilitating easier access to EPR-compliant solutions, PWS positions itself as a key partner in corporate sustainability efforts and the broader push for environmental accountability.
