Mapúa University’s School of Nursing has launched SimChart, a simulated electronic health record (EHR) platform, as a core component of its nursing curriculum—the first initiative of its kind in the Asia-Pacific region.
Developed by Elsevier and distributed locally by MegaTEXTS Phil. Inc., SimChart replicates real-world hospital documentation systems. It enables students to practice electronic charting, interpret patient data, and make clinical decisions in a virtual environment, preparing them for digital documentation demands in global healthcare settings.
“This initiative ensures our students are prepared from day one,” said Emmillie Joy Mejia, dean of Mapúa’s School of Nursing. She noted that many Filipino nurses working abroad encounter challenges adapting to electronic systems due to limited exposure in local training.
The platform will be integrated across Mapúa’s extensive clinical and lab training, which makes up half of the nursing program. SimChart’s use will also expand to allied health fields like pharmacy and medical technology to simulate real-world healthcare team collaboration.
Mejia emphasized SimChart’s broader impact: “It builds not only competence but self-esteem among future Filipino healthcare professionals,” underscoring its role in modernizing health education and enhancing interdisciplinary teamwork.
