ICTSI secures 30-year deal to operate Batam port terminal

International Container Terminal Services Inc. (ICTSI) has signed a 30-year concession agreement to develop and operate the Batu Ampar Container Terminal (BACT) in Batam, Indonesia—marking a significant expansion of its Southeast Asian operations.

The deal was formalized through a partnership between PT Batam Terminal Petikemas (BTP), a subsidiary of an Indonesian state-owned entity (SOE), and PT Batu Ampar Container Terminal, a 75/25 joint venture between ICTSI and PT Interport Sarana Infrastruktur Indonesia. The joint venture will serve as the long-term strategic partner for BACT’s operation and development.

Located along the Malacca Strait, one of the world’s busiest shipping routes, BACT serves as the main container terminal of Batam Island, a major special economic zone in the region. The terminal features 1,032 meters of operational quay, five ship-to-shore cranes, and a fully developed support area. In 2024, the terminal handled over 600,000 TEUs, reflecting robust local demand and regional trade activity.

PT Interport Sarana Infrastruktur Indonesia, ICTSI’s joint venture partner, is a wholly-owned subsidiary of PT Indika Energy Tbk, a major Indonesian conglomerate with diversified interests in energy, logistics, infrastructure, minerals, green ventures, and digital technologies.

The agreement underscores ICTSI’s continued strategy to expand in key regional growth markets and support economic development through modern port infrastructure.
