PT DSSR Daya Mas Sakti (DSSR), a subsidiary of PT Dian Swastatika Sentosa Tbk (DSSA) under Indonesia’s Sinar Mas Group, has entered into a joint venture agreement with PT FirstGen Geothermal Indonesia, a subsidiary of the Philippines-based Energy Development Corporation (EDC), part of First Gen Corporation.
The collaboration marks a major step in advancing Indonesia’s renewable energy ambitions and strengthening regional geothermal development.
EDC is the Philippines’ largest renewable energy producer and the world’s largest vertically integrated geothermal company. The joint venture aims to combine EDC’s global geothermal expertise with DSSR’s local presence and operational capabilities to accelerate the development of geothermal resources across six strategic sites in West Java, Flores, Jambi, West Sumatra, and Central Sulawesi, with a combined potential of approximately 440 megawatts.
According to Lokita Prasetya, president director of DSSR and vice president director of DSSA, the agreement “goes beyond investment,” representing a strategic knowledge-sharing initiative to build Indonesia’s national capacity in geothermal energy. Francis Giles B. Puno, CEO of EDC and president & COO of First Gen, emphasized the partnership as a platform to apply EDC’s decades-long expertise to support Indonesia’s clean energy goals.
The initiative holds significant policy implications as it aligns with Indonesia’s national energy transition strategy, which targets net-zero emissions by 2060 and seeks to leverage the country’s vast but underdeveloped geothermal reserves—estimated at 24 gigawatts, with less than 10 percent currently tapped.
By facilitating technology transfer, capacity building, and sustainable development, the DSSR-EDC joint venture contributes to Indonesia’s broader ambitions under the Golden Indonesia 2045 vision: building a resilient, sovereign, and sustainable energy future.
