Manila Water rolls out October desludging drive

Manila Water on Tuesday announced its October schedule for septic tank cleaning in 22 barangays across the East Zone of Metro Manila and parts of Rizal, as part of its ongoing efforts to promote safe sanitation and environmental protection.

The regular desludging program is a crucial public health measure that helps prevent septic tank overflow, particularly during the rainy season, when heavy rains increase the risk of spreading waterborne diseases. The service is offered at no extra cost, and residents are encouraged to coordinate with their respective barangay offices to be included in the list.

For October, Manila Water’s desludging teams will be deployed in the following areas: Barangays San Isidro and San Juan in Taytay, Rizal; San Isidro in Montalban (Rodriguez); Silangan in San Mateo; and San Jose and Mayamot in Antipolo City. In Metro Manila, the schedule includes Barangays Rosario, Santo Tomas, Manggahan, and Kalawaan in Pasig City; Napindan in Taguig City; Balong-bato, Pasadena, Pedro Cruz, San Perfecto, and Greenhills in San Juan City; Damayang Lagi, Nayong Kanluran, New Era, San Martin de Porres, and San Roque in Quezon City; and Tejeros in Makati City.

“Desludging is one of the frontline defenses against overflow and disease. By keeping septic systems in check, we help protect our communities from the health and environmental risks that come with untreated wastewater, especially during the rainy season,” said Jeric Sevilla, corporate communication affairs group director at Manila Water.

The company reminds customers to have their septic tanks cleaned every five years as part of proper waste management and encourages everyone in the affected barangays to take advantage of the free service.
