BPI wins major honors at 2025 ABF Retail Banking Awards

The Bank of the Philippine Islands (BPI) earned six prestigious awards at the 2025 Asian Banking & Finance (ABF) Retail Banking Awards, further cementing its position as a leading force in the Philippine banking industry.

BPI president and CEO TG Limcaoco expressed gratitude for the recognition, stating that the awards reflect the bank’s ongoing commitment to improving the customer experience. “With a mindset of customer obsession, we will keep driving innovation and delivering inclusive, sustainable solutions that make banking simpler, more accessible, and more meaningful for every Filipino,” he said.

Among the highlights, BPI’s microfinance arm, BPI Direct BanKo, Inc., was awarded SME Community Support of the Year – Philippines for its BanKo-On-The-Go (BOTG) initiative. The program deploys mobile banking units and ambassadors to underserved areas, offering affordable financial services and helping integrate microentrepreneurs and informal workers into the formal financial system.

The May BPI Dito initiative, under BPI’s Agency Banking program, was named Customer Experience Initiative of the Year – Philippines. This project expands banking access through non-traditional partner establishments, overcoming barriers to reach rural and underserved communities. In just its first year, the program onboarded over 200,000 new clients, distributed more than 500,000 banking products, and reached over 400,000 individuals.

BPI also received the Open Banking Initiative of the Year – Philippines award for its growing digital ecosystem. The bank’s open banking platform supports a wide range of services including utility payments, e-commerce, remittances, and e-wallet top-ups, while prioritizing digital security and data privacy.

Two awards—New Consumer Lending Product of the Year and Sustainability Initiative of the Year—were given to BPI’s Green Solutions program. This pioneering retail lending suite promotes sustainable living through Electric Vehicle Financing and Solar Mortgage offerings. To date, the initiative has financed PHP 4.7 billion in green loans, benefited more than 3,000 families, and helped reduce over 20 billion pounds of carbon emissions. BPI aims to double this portfolio by the end of 2025.

Rounding out the bank’s recognition, BPI earned the ESG Program of the Year – Philippines award for its comprehensive sustainability strategy. As the first Philippine bank to link employee performance metrics with ESG goals, BPI has adopted an ESG+E₂ approach, which integrates economic value alongside environmental and social impact.

Now in its 20th year, the ABF Retail Banking Awards recognize institutions that are reshaping the retail banking landscape across Asia through innovation, digital transformation, and exceptional customer experiences.
