Aboitiz InfraCapital champions Mindanao growth via infrastructure

Aboitiz InfraCapital, Inc. (AIC), the infrastructure arm of the Aboitiz Group, reaffirmed its long-term commitment to Mindanao at two key events in Davao City last September: the Davao Investment Conference (Davao ICON) 2025 and the Mindanao PPP Facilitation Initiative launch.

AIC leaders highlighted the role of connectivity and collaboration in unlocking Mindanao’s potential. Christine Villanueva, AIC Airports Head of Strategy and Communications, underscored the importance of modern regional airports during a Davao ICON panel. “Airports are not just travel terminals—they are engines of economic activity,” she said.

AIC, through Aboitiz InfraCapital Laguindingan Airport Corporation, is spearheading the modernization of Laguindingan International Airport (LIA), Mindanao’s second-busiest gateway. The initiative, following a 30-year concession awarded in 2024, includes terminal expansion to support growing domestic and future international traffic.

AIC’s airport portfolio now handles over 20 percent of national passenger volume, positioning it as a leading multi-airport operator.

Meanwhile, Apo Agua Infrastructura, Inc., AIC’s water subsidiary, showcased the Davao City Bulk Water Supply Project (DCBWSP) — the largest of its kind in the Philippines. Supplying 300 million liters of sustainable water daily, the PPP project now benefits over one million residents and has driven over P15 billion in investments.

At the Mindanao PPP Facilitation Initiative, AIC First Vice President Frocks Roque highlighted the importance of measurable service delivery and alignment between public and private sectors for successful PPPs.

AIC’s expanding footprint reflects growing confidence in Mindanao’s potential as a hub for commerce, tourism, and inclusive development.
