DOTr launches unified RFID toll system across Luzon

The Department of Transportation (DOTr) on Tuesday officially launched a unified toll collection system across Luzon, allowing motorists to use a single RFID sticker to access all major expressways.

Dubbed “One RFID, All Tollways,” the initiative aims to provide faster, hassle-free travel and is part of the government’s broader transport modernization efforts. President Ferdinand Marcos Jr. led the launch and directed the DOTr and Toll Regulatory Board (TRB) to ensure seamless implementation.

“We are listening to the concerns of our countrymen and have found a good solution. Starting today, only one RFID sticker is required on all toll expressways in Luzon,” Marcos said.

Motorists can now choose between using either Autosweep or Easytrip RFID systems to access major toll roads such as NLEX, SLEX, SCTEX, Skyway, TPLEX, CAVITEX, CALAX, and more.

According to Acting Transportation Secretary Giovanni Lopez, the system has passed stress testing and is ready for widespread use. He encouraged motorists to shift to the new windshield-installed RFID, which performs better than older headlight-based stickers.

Opting into the unified system is free and voluntary, with both online and walk-in registration available. Motorists may also retain two separate RFID accounts if they prefer.

For now, the interoperability applies to individual accounts, but the DOTr targets full inclusion of group or corporate accounts by mid-2026.

The DOTr thanked the private sector, including San Miguel Corporation (SMC) and Metro Pacific Investments Corp. (MPIC), for cooperating in system integration.

“We fully support tollway and infrastructure works to improve our country,” said SMC president Ramon Ang. MPIC chairman Manuel V. Pangilinan also reaffirmed support, citing the resolution of technical issues with government assistance.

The unified RFID system stems from a 2017 interoperability project led by the DOTr, TRB, DPWH, LTO, and private toll operators.
