NVIDIA to invest USD1B in Nokia, shares surge on AI-driven telecom push

NVIDIA, the global leader in artificial intelligence and accelerated computing, is investing USD1 billion in Finnish technology firm Nokia as part of a sweeping strategic partnership to develop artificial intelligence-powered wireless infrastructure, sending both companies’ shares soaring Tuesday.

Nokia soared 23 percent higher while NVIDIA closed with a 5 percent gain, pushing the AI giant to nearly USD5 trillion—around 10 times the value of the Philippine economy.

The collaboration will integrate NVIDIA’s advanced computing and AI platforms into Nokia’s radio access network (RAN) portfolio, creating next-generation AI-RAN products that will enable telecom operators to build AI-native 5G-Advanced and 6G networks. The investment, priced at USD6.01 per share, is subject to customary closing conditions.

The move signals the start of what both firms call the “AI-native wireless era,” as artificial intelligence becomes integral to network operations and optimization. Industry analysts from Omdia estimate the AI-RAN market could exceed USD200 billion by 2030, positioning NVIDIA and Nokia to lead in this high-growth segment.

Jensen Huang, founder and chief executive officer of NVIDIA, said AI-RAN represents a “generational platform shift” that will redefine telecommunications. “Together with Nokia and America’s telecom ecosystem, we are equipping operators to build intelligent, adaptive networks that will define the next generation of global connectivity,” he said.

Nokia President and CEO Justin Hotard said the deal goes beyond traditional network upgrades. “The next leap in telecom is a fundamental redesign — delivering AI-powered connectivity that puts an AI data center into everyone’s pocket,” he said.

The partnership will also include T-Mobile U.S., which plans to begin field trials of AI-RAN technologies in 2026, marking a key step toward 6G innovation.

By marrying artificial intelligence computing with radio networks, NVIDIA and Nokia aim to create more efficient, adaptable, and future-proof infrastructure — paving the way for drones, connected vehicles, and immersive AR/VR experiences powered by ultra-fast, intelligent connectivity.
