Lalamove survey: Filipino SMEs stay cautious but expect better business condition by 2026

A new survey from on-demand delivery platform Lalamove shows that while many Filipino small and medium enterprises (SMEs) remain careful in their business decisions, most expect conditions to improve by 2026.

According to the survey of about 500 SMEs conducted from September to October, 61 percent said they are “cautious but optimistic” about the country’s business outlook in 2026. Another 22 percent said they remain uncertain, while 31 percent are hopeful about stronger business prospects.

Despite the optimism, SMEs continue to face several hurdles. Eighty-three percent expect inflation and high interest rates to slow their growth in the next year. Eighty-two percent worry about weak or unpredictable consumer spending, while 72 percent cite high logistics costs as a potential challenge.

Lalamove Philippines managing director Djon Nacario said the findings reflect both confidence and concern among business owners, noting that Lalamove aims to help SMEs stay flexible and manage costs through affordable on-demand logistics.

With the year-end season approaching, SMEs are already ramping up operations. Sixty percent have increased or stocked up on inventory, and 37 percent have started adjusting delivery timelines as early as September. Despite recent disruptions from calamities and political issues, 67 percent still expect strong holiday demand and plan to launch Christmas marketing campaigns.

Logistics support remains critical for SMEs, with 72 percent saying on-demand delivery services are among their most important business resources. Affordable pricing is their top factor when choosing a delivery partner, followed by speed and secure handling.

Lalamove recently rolled out new features—including driver facial recognition and upgraded insurance coverage of up to ₱20,000 for loss or damage—to strengthen trust and meet rising SME needs.

As businesses continue adapting to economic challenges, on-demand delivery platforms like Lalamove are expected to play a key role in helping SMEs stay resilient and competitive into the new year.
