Globe, Taguig City hold digital safety workshop for students

Globe partnered with the Taguig City government to hold a Children’s Digital Safety Workshop in November, at the CDRRMO Training Plaza in Barangay Central Signal, aiming to help protect young people online.

The workshop brought together 115 student leaders and teachers from public secondary schools in Taguig. It was held amid growing concerns over cyberbullying, misuse of personal data, and online exploitation, highlighting the need for stronger digital literacy among students.

Globe led two sessions during the event. Privacy Compliance Expert Karen Panisales discussed how students can protect their personal information and understand online risks. Communications Manager Jan Merced facilitated Globe’s Digital Thumbprint Program, which teaches responsible online behavior and has reached over 4 million students and educators nationwide since 2016.

Representatives from the Philippine National Police and the Department of Justice’s National Coordination Center against OSAEC and CSAEM also joined the workshop. Prosecutor Lara Sanchez explained how online sexual abuse and exploitation of children happens, the warning signs, and how cases can be reported through proper legal channels. She stressed that early awareness and timely reporting can help prevent abuse.

Globe emphasized the role of young leaders in promoting safe online spaces. Yoly Crisanto, Globe’s Chief Sustainability and Corporate Communications Officer, said equipping students with digital safety skills enables them to guide their peers and help build safer online communities.

Taguig City Mayor Lani Cayetano encouraged participants to share what they learned with their classmates and communities, noting that student leaders play a key role in promoting responsible online behavior.

The initiative highlights the importance of cooperation among local government, law enforcement, and the private sector in keeping children safe in digital spaces.
