Meralco executives, together with Energy Secretary Sharon S. Garin, Energy Regulatory Commission chairman Francis Saturnino C. Juan, Quezon Province Governor Dr. Angelina D.L. Tan, and Mauban Mayor Erwin Dwight C. Pastrana led the ceremonial lighting on December 18, 2025.
“We celebrate the fulfillment of a promise that progress should reach every Filipino home. This project is a testament to what can be achieved when the government, regulators, and the private sector work hand-in-hand for the greater good,” Meralco COO Aperocho said.
In time for the Christmas season, Meralco through its corporate social development arm OMF, also spread holiday cheers to residents by lighting up the Our Lady Fatima Chapel. OMF also distributed 100 Noche Buena packages to families, 300 Balik Eskwela kits containing school supplies to students, and turned over five printers and 12 laptops to barangay offices and schools on the island.
The Cagbalete Microgrid, designed to deliver 24/7 electricity to over 1,000 households and businesses, is set to become the largest microgrid system in the Philippines once it reaches its
full build-out capacity in the next three years.
The project will achieve 100 percent household-level electrification for the island and provide renewable energy that can potentially offset up to 42,000 metric tons of carbon dioxide emissions, significantly benefiting the environment and advancing the country’s sustainable energy future goals.
