Maya brings digital bill payments to remote SPUG communities

Maya is expanding its digital electricity bill payment service to include households supplied by the National Power Corporation’s Small Power Utilities Group (SPUG), which provides electricity to remote and missionary areas. The new option allows SPUG customers to pay their power bills electronically through Maya, reducing reliance on manual and over-the-counter payments commonly used in these communities.

The move supports the government’s push for digitalization by making essential services more accessible outside major cities. With many SPUG-served areas already having mobile connectivity, the partnership is expected to improve convenience for nearly one million households and help modernize billing and payment systems in geographically isolated and underserved locations.

Numbers vary but the NPC most recently reported 281 SPUGs as operational serving 926,000 households in 35 provinces across the country.
