Manila Water shifts to full renewable power for key operations

The Manila Water Co. has switched its main operations to 100 percent renewable electricity, becoming the first water utility in the country to do so. The move is made through a retail power supply partnership with AdventEnergy, the retail arm of Aboitiz Power Corp.

Under the agreement, all of Manila Water’s East Zone facilities in Metro Manila and Rizal are now fully powered by renewable energy. Other business units outside the East Zone—including Cebu, Boracay, Laguna, and other provincial water operations—will use a power supply mix with at least 20 percent renewable energy.

The shift supports the government’s push for clean energy and national decarbonization, while helping reduce greenhouse gas emissions from essential public services like water. For consumers, the use of renewable energy helps stabilize electricity costs over time, which supports Manila Water’s goal of keeping water services affordable and reliable.

Company officials said the partnership shows that utilities can adopt cleaner energy without compromising service quality. By moving early, Manila Water is helping set a precedent for other critical infrastructure providers to support the country’s transition to renewable energy while delivering everyday services to households and communities.
