Lufthansa Technik is planning a USD400-million expansion of its maintenance, repair, and overhaul facility at Clark, a move expected to further strengthen the Philippines’ position as an emerging aviation services hub in Asia, according to the Bases Conversion and Development Authority.
BCDA President and Chief Executive Officer Joshua Bingcang said commercial terms are being finalized for a 25-year lease covering at least 15 hectares within the Clark aviation complex, with negotiations targeted for completion by March.
“Once we close the deal, construction can begin, and operations could start within two to three years,” Bingcang said during a press briefing.
A centerpiece of the project is the construction of new hangars capable of servicing the Airbus A380, the world’s largest commercial aircraft. Achieving A380 capability would significantly elevate Clark’s MRO standing and attract more wide-body and next-generation aircraft, supported by Clark International Airport’s long runway and expanding aviation ecosystem.
The planned expansion reflects rising global demand for aircraft maintenance as airlines extend fleet lifecycles, while space constraints at other Lufthansa Technik locations have pushed the company to scale up in Clark.
The Philippine government is actively promoting the site as a destination for high-value aviation and aerospace investments.
Beyond lease revenues, BCDA said the project is being evaluated for its broader economic contribution, including foreign investment inflows, technology transfer, and job generation. The expansion is expected to create skilled employment and strengthen the country’s role in the regional aerospace supply chain.
Clark already hosts several MRO players, reinforcing its emergence as a competitive aviation services cluster. The Lufthansa Technik project is part of a wider development pipeline that includes data centers, logistics facilities, and renewable energy investments, as BCDA advances Clark’s transformation into a premier logistics and industrial hub.
