NONECO secures 30-MW power deal to stabilize rates, improve reliability in Northern Negros

Consumers in northern Negros Occidental can expect more stable electricity service following a new 30-megawatt power supply agreement between the Northern Negros Electric Cooperative, Inc. (NONECO) and Aboitiz Power Corporation.

The long-term deal, awarded after a competitive bidding process, will supply NONECO with a mix of solar and baseload power. Under the agreement, 10 MW will come from Aboitiz Solar Power Inc., while 20 MW of steady baseload electricity will be provided by GNPower Mariveles Energy Center.

For consumers, the agreement is significant because it is designed to help stabilize electricity costs and ensure a reliable power supply. A diversified energy mix reduces the risk of supply shortages and price spikes, especially during periods of high demand.

NONECO serves several cities and towns across northern Negros, including Victorias City, Cadiz City, Sagay City, Escalante City, San Carlos City, and the municipalities of Manapla, Toboso, E.B. Magalona, and Calatrava.

Cooperative officials said the steady supply at competitive rates will support local businesses, encourage economic growth, and improve quality of life for residents. AboitizPower, for its part, said the combination of dependable baseload and renewable solar energy offers both reliability and sustainability for the communities served.

The new supply arrangement aims to meet the growing electricity demand in the area while helping protect consumers from sudden increases in power costs.
